After a long summer, the kids are finally back to school and I am back to posting.  My youngest son started all day Kindergarten, my daughter 2nd, my next eldest son 5th and my oldest son started 8th grade.  AHHHH!  High School next year.  I happened too fast.  So I spent the day looking at when Open Houses are being held and starting to even schedule “shadow days” at some of the local high schools.  We know God will put him and our family in the right High school situation.

Last weekend we were attending a family BBQ.  I was talking with one of my husband’s family members about looking for high schools for our oldest son.  She was asking about his interests, I told her he wants to do Computer Science Engineering, at least right now.  Her comment, “Doesn’t he know what his last name is?  He will never amount to much like the other men in this family.”  Luckily the comment was told to me and not to me son.  There is not much I could say to her that would ever change her way of thinking.

But there is lots I can do about the way my children grow up thinking about themselves and about all the things they can accomplish in their lives.  My children believe that they can accomplish anything, trust me, they will!  We openly talk about likes and dislikes, activities they enjoy and those they never want to do again.  When my son says he will be “rich” he believes it.  He has already picked out the Porsche he wants to drive.  My youngest son says he wants to sing and dance and be on TV.  I believe he will.

No one else in our family may believe that one my sons will drive a Porsche and the other is going to be on TV but I believe it and so do they.  They have a desire that I nurture on daily basis.  They can see it see it heir minds,  they can smell the inside of the new car, they can even see themselves driving the car or know the TV show he will be on.  There is not a doubt that they will accomplish all their dreams.

As a parent of a child who wants to sing and dance and be on TV, I have the responsibility of not only molding his mind and desire but also putting him in dance lessons-so he can really see if he likes dancing, also joining the children’s choir so he can begin developing his singing voice, and finding a piano teacher that specializes in teaching young children to play piano.  No dream comes true by desire alone but there also must be a large dose of hard work and dedication.

Talk to your children.  Get to know what their dreams are and help them to make them a reality.
